Directors notes:
I have thought about this project for a long time. Timing never seemed quite right. During the pandemic, when we were all stuck indoors and away from our friends, projects, family, I found myself gravitating to horror films. I’ve always loved a spooky show but I was starting to only watch horror. It was a way of coping, watching monsters and murderers and feeling like at least I wasn’t running from those claws, teeth, knives and blood thirsty foes. Horror gave me some much needed perspective on the world’s trials. As the world opened up, we at Wayward talked about what show to do. What did we need? What might our audience need at this time? I landed on Christmas Carol and set to work to adapting it, leaning into the humor and the horror and the majesty of the mansion. Sometimes we just need a good laugh, a short scream and to leave with our friends and family knowing we are all going to be okay. I hope you have a giggle, a gasp and some good cheer tonight.
